New Zealand slipped to 146 for 9 in the first ODI against India at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, losing their last recognised batter after India had won the toss and chosen to bowl first.
Glenn Phillips, who had held one end since the middle-order collapse, fell for 30, mishitting Arshdeep Singh to mid-off to give the left-arm seamer his fourth wicket, after Arshdeep had already removed Kyle Jamieson for 1, caught by Virat Kohli, to make it 131 for 8.
Jacob Duffy and last batter Blair Tickner are now left to add what they can for the hosts, with India, who won the five-match T20I series 3-2, firmly on top in the series opener.
