Gardner's 124 Powers Sixers to 87-Run Win Over Hurricanes in WBBL

Sydney Sixers captain Ashleigh Gardner smashed 124 off just 60 balls to rescue her side and set up an 87-run win over Hobart Hurricanes in the Women's Big Bash League at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney today.

Sixers were in deep trouble at 6 for 3 in the third over, but Gardner hit 10 fours and nine sixes and shared a 176-run stand with Alice Capsey, who made 54 not out off 40 balls, as Sixers reached 196 for 8.

Gardner then starred with the ball too, taking three wickets as Hurricanes were bowled out for 109, after slumping to 26 for 5 in the eighth over, with Maddy Green top-scoring with 42 not out.

It was Gardner's second century in the competition and the fourth-highest individual score in WBBL history, and the win takes Sixers to 2-0 for the season while defending champions Hurricanes slip to 0-2.
