Phillips 56 Runs Away From World Record in Hamilton Finale
Glenn Phillips walks into today's fifth and final T20I against India at Seddon Park in Hamilton just 56 runs away from a world record.
The New Zealand batter has scored 276 runs in four matches in the series, including a 49-ball 107 in Auckland on Friday that powered the hosts to 259 for 7 and an 87-run win.
One more big knock would take him past England's Phil Salt, who scored 331 runs in five matches against the West Indies in December 2023 — the most ever in a bilateral T20I series.
Only Salt and Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan, with 316 runs against England in 2022, have ever crossed 300 runs in such a series.
Phillips needs 15 more runs to pass Mark Chapman's 290, the most by a New Zealand batter in a bilateral T20I series, and he already holds the record for the most runs in a T20I series against India.
India lead the five-match series 3-1, and the final match starts at 12:30 PM IST.
