India Smash Record 118 in Powerplay Against New Zealand in Wellington 3rd T20I

India smashed 118 runs without losing a wicket in the first six overs of their chase of 199 against New Zealand in the third T20I at Hnry Stadium in Wellington on Tuesday, setting a new record for the highest powerplay total in men's T20I cricket.

Openers Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi raced to 50 in just 14 balls and to 100 in five overs, with Abhishek reaching his fifty in only 15 balls.

The previous overall record was Romania's 116 against Serbia in 2021, while the previous best by a full-member team was Australia's 113 for 1 against Scotland in 2024, and India's own previous best was 100 against Afghanistan in Delhi.

The opening stand reached 133 off just 44 balls before Sooryavanshi fell for 45 off 19 balls, leaving India firmly on course in their chase of 199 with the five-match series 2-0 in their favour, a win in Wellington sealing the series with two matches still to play.
