Brisbane Heat star Jess Jonassen will miss the entire WBBL 2026-27 season after being told to rest a hip complaint and return to action next year.
The Heat confirmed the news ahead of their opening match against the Sydney Sixers on 30 October, leaving them without their most experienced bowler for the whole competition.
Jonassen is the most capped player in WBBL history, having played for the Heat in every season since 2015-16, with 184 wickets in 153 matches — the most by any player for a single team across the men's and women's Big Bash competitions.
The club are in talks to sign an international replacement before the first game, and Jonassen plans to return to training in December with her next domestic match targeted for 4 January.
