Tilak Varma Sets World Record for Most T20I Catches in a Year

Tilak Varma has set a new world record for the most catches by a fielder in a calendar year in T20I cricket.

The India vice-captain took two catches in the second T20I against New Zealand at Christchurch — Tim Seifert off Arshdeep Singh and Daryl Mitchell off Bhuvneshwar Kumar — taking his 2026 tally to 26 catches.

That moved him past Indonesia's Danilson Hawoe, who held the previous record with 25 catches in 2025.
