Gurnoor Brar struck twice in quick succession in the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, removing Tom Latham for 3 to leave New Zealand 84 for 4 in the 17th over after India had won the toss and chosen to bowl first.
Latham was caught and bowled by Brar, who took a sharp left-handed catch on his follow-through, after Brar had already removed Tim Seifert in the 15th over, caught by substitute fielder Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Daryl Mitchell, unbeaten on 20, was joined by Glenn Phillips, with New Zealand in trouble in the five-match series opener after India won the T20I series 3-2.
