Brar Reveals the 'Hit the Stumps' Banter Before Dismissing Tickner Next Ball

Gurnoor Brar has revealed the funny exchange behind one of the best moments of the first ODI at Eden Park: with New Zealand nine down, last batter Blair Tickner kept pointing at his stumps and daring the Indian pacer to bowl at them instead of bowling short.

Brar said Tickner kept telling him to hit the stumps because he wanted a full ball he could hit for six down the ground.

Brar refused to fall for it and told him he would get him out from right there, with the short ball.

On the very next ball, Brar bowled short again, Tickner top-edged a pull, and KL Rahul caught it moving to his left.

Tickner fell for a fiery 34 off 23 balls with four sixes, New Zealand were bowled out for 185 in 40.2 overs, and Brar finished with three wickets for 44 runs in 9.2 overs as India went on to win the rain-hit opener and lead the series 1-0.
