Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl first in the second ODI against New Zealand at Hnry Stadium in Wellington, with play starting at 8:30 AM IST after rain delayed the start.
The match has been reduced to 47 overs per side, and the pitch still has moisture on it, which should give the fast bowlers early help.
India have kept the same team that won the opener in Auckland, with Auqib Nabi holding his place and Mohammed Siraj missing out despite joining the squad.
New Zealand have also named an unchanged team, with Matt Henry left out even though he has been cleared of concussion, so Jacob Duffy and Blair Tickner keep their places.
India lead the five-match series 1-0.
