Inglis and Carey Put Australia Ahead on Day 2 in Cape Town Decider

Australia ended Day 2 of the deciding third Test against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town on Wednesday on 330 for 4, one run ahead of South Africa's first-innings total of 329, with six wickets still in hand.

Josh Inglis, unbeaten on 85, and Alex Carey, unbeaten on 51, shared an unbroken 145-run stand for the fifth wicket after Australia had slipped to 185 for 4, and the pair will resume on Thursday morning with the series decider level at 1-1.

Matt Renshaw made 74 and Cameron Green made 65 in a 126-run third-wicket stand, before Marco Jansen removed both in quick succession, while Simon Harmer had earlier struck twice in the same morning over, dismissing Travis Head for 41 and Marnus Labuschagne for a duck.

South Africa had been bowled out for 329 on the first day, and with Australia now in front, the hosts need early wickets on Day 3 to stop the visitors building a big lead in the series decider.
