Buttler May Not Play for England Again Until September 2027
England batter Jos Buttler has said he will not rush his return from left hamstring surgery and may not play for his country again until September 2027.
Buttler tore his left hamstring while running between the wickets in an ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley in September, shortly after his 36th birthday, and had surgery on 12 October.
Doctors have told him to expect at least 12 weeks of rehabilitation, with a return to playing in 12 to 16 weeks, so England's ODI series in South Africa in January will come too soon — instead he is targeting a comeback in the SA20.
Because of England's packed schedule — next summer's Ashes and The Hundred, plus a full Indian Premier League season — he may not wear an England shirt again until September 2027, just a month before the ODI World Cup in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
