New Zealand's 11th Loss to India in 2026 Sets Unwanted Calendar-Year Record
New Zealand's four-run defeat to India on the DLS method in the second ODI at Hnry Stadium in Wellington on Saturday was their 11th loss to India in 2026 across formats.
It is the most defeats New Zealand have suffered against one opponent in a calendar year, passing their previous worst of 10 against Australia in 2005, with nine against England in 2008 next on the list.
The hosts were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs, their lowest ODI total against India at home — going past the 142 they made in Auckland in 1994 — and it was also their first back-to-back home ODI defeats since January 2019, again against India.
India lead the five-match ODI series 2-0, and with three ODIs and two Tests still to come on this tour, the tally could climb further before the year is out.
