Oman Seal 2027 World Cup Qualifier Spot on Net Run Rate, Ahead of Namibia
Oman have sealed a place in the 2027 men's ODI World Cup Qualifier despite losing their final League 2 match, edging Namibia on net run rate to take the fourth and last direct qualifying spot.
The United Arab Emirates won the final match of the League 2 cycle in Dubai on Wednesday, posting 226 for 8 before holding Oman to 184 for 9 to win by 42 runs.
Captain Rahul Chopra and Adeeb Usmani made 47 each for the hosts, while Mujibur Ali top-scored for Oman with 65 and left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed took 3 for 42.
The defeat was Oman's seventh in a row, but it was not heavy enough to cost them the spot: both sides finished level on 33 points from 36 matches, and Oman's net run rate of -0.224 stayed ahead of Namibia's -0.278.
Oman now join League 2 champions the United States, Scotland and the Netherlands in the 10-team global qualifier, which will decide the last four places at the 2027 World Cup, while Namibia, Canada, Nepal and the UAE head to the Qualifier Playoff for another chance.
