Bavuma Passes 4,000 Test Runs in Cape Town Decider
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma passed 4,000 runs in Test cricket on day three of the series decider against Australia at Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday.
Bavuma began the match seven runs short of the mark after a duck in the first innings, and reached the milestone early in South Africa's second innings, surviving a review on the way before clipping the next ball off his pads to raise the landmark.
The milestone caps a fine series for the captain, who struck a career-best 179 in the second Test at Gqeberha last week, and it comes with the three-match series level at 1-1 and the world's number-one Test ranking on the line for the winners.
Bavuma has now scored more than 4,000 Test runs at an average above 38, with five centuries and 26 half-centuries to his name.
